Tommee Tippee Bottles

Tommee tippee, alongside Babymoov, the Gro Company and Child’s Farm is one of our absolute favourite baby product companies, and we’ve used their bottles right from the start with Ripley.  Well, that’s a lie because the very first bottle he had in the hospital was an SMA pre-sterilised bottle with a Nuk teat…  but after that we started to use Tommee Tippee.

We did try Nuk bottles for a very brief period whilst Ripley was going through a fussy stage where he just spat out most of his milk.  We thought that it was the teat on the Tommee Tippee bottles, and knew that as a new born he loved the Nuk disposable bottle.  But…  It made no difference!

So which Tommee Tippee products have we used?  There are so many of their products out there, and it’s not just bottles either!  Here are the feed related products which we have tried, and if you want to try them yourself and want to buy any of the products just click on the image to be taken to that product on Amazon!

Closer to Nature Clear Bottles

This is what you might call their bog standard bottle… and if you ask me, from my experience, it’s the best bottle on the market.  There’s nothing fancy about it!  It’s just a clear bottle which comes in a few different sizes as you can see below, and that’s about it.  What else do you want?  It’s not self cleaning and it doesn’t talk to you or synch to your phone via blue tooth (there must be a bottle somewhere by now with blue tooth right?), it just gets milk from in to your baby without the need for a boob!

The bottom is a nice size making it easy to hold, steady when stood on a surface and really easy to clean.

Most importantly Ripley really seems to love the teats on this bottle and even though they don’t like like a classic bottle teat shape, they’re actually quite nipple like so it makes sense that he likes the shape.  Plus they comes in a variety of flow rates which are interchangeable with the various bottles.

To make sure that the bottles are kept nice and clean, all you do is wash them in warm water with a gentle detergent (we use fairy liquid), washing any milk out using a brush – Tommee Tippee actually sell one which is perfectly sized for the job.  Some times you can find them all as a starter set.

And of course what good is cleaning with a brush if you don’t then sterilize the different parts of the bottle?  Of course Tommee Tippee have some sterilizer options, and we have always just used the microwave steam one.  Its really easy to use and takes less than 10 minutes in the microwave.

Tommee Tippee Advance Comfort Bottle

Above we mentioned that we tried the Nuk bottles because Ripley was spitting a lot of milk out.  What I didn’t mention is that we thought that it could be due to colic, so we first tried the Tommee Tippee Advance Comfort anti colic bottle.  I purchased a pack of 4 of the small 150 ml ones.  Put them together, they’ve got some weird plastic thing in them, and made up some milk in the first one.

As I shook it, milk flew everywhere!  It went down my top, it covered my trousers and all over the kitchen side.

So I tried another, and another, and then another…  Every single one of them leaked like hell.  Maybe they can’t be sterilised, or maybe they’re just crap?  Who knows!  All I know is that I got so annoyed that I threw them away before thinking about taking them back.  If you want to try them, go ahead, but personally I wouldn’t recommend them.

Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Bottle Handles

One thing I really like about their bottle system is that so much of it is interchangeable or can be upgraded!  Ripley has been using the same bottles since he was a few weeks old (the only difference before that being that he had the smaller bottles).  So when he turned 4 months it was a great addition for him when we were able to attach these cool handles to his bottle.  They are perfect with the 260 ml bottles!

Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Anytime Soother

Staying on the topic of upgrading and interchanging things, the dummies which they sell (if you’re using their bottles) are perfect, because they have a very similar shape and texture to their bottles.

It’s not quite the same, but close enough for your baby to get the soothing feeling they crave from suckling – hence the name soother of course.

Tommee Tippee Breast Pump

Just because you’re feeding from the bottle, this doesn’t mean that your baby needs to be on formula milk.  Pumping is a great way to keep the milk supply strong and to give your baby a great milk source without having to have them actually breast feeding all the time at least.

With this system you can actually pump direct in to a bottle and then unscrew it to get the teat on top instead.  However, we found this pump to be the worst one we tried, and I think my wife used at least 3 or 4 different ones.  This one just leaked everywhere and was a ridiculous amount of work to get any milk out.  We quickly decided not to bother with this one any more!

Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Electric Bottle & Food Warmer

For the longest time we have been involved in bottle feeding orphaned animals and have always heated up milk by boiling water in a kettle, pouring it in a mug, putting the bottle of milk in and taking a guess at when it’s ready.  Incidentally for bigger animals we used Tommee Tippee bottles for them too!

However to get a steadier heat we decided to try the Tommee Tippee heater which can also be used to put the baby food jars or pouches in to slowly heat them through.

The heat which it gives off means that it takes a little longer to heat the bottle but there is a much longer time between over and under heating.  However don’t think that this, combined with the temperature dial means that you wont over heat your bottle…  If you forget about it, it will just keep getting hotter and hotter!

The Final Verdict on Tommee Tippee Products

There are loads of products in the Tommee Tippee range and I have here just focused on their feed related products which I have used myself.  I also use cuddly toys and shitty nappy bins by them but that’s something for another blog post.  They even do a follow on sippie cup which can be used from 4 months, however, even though I’ve got one I haven’t got round to using it with Ripley yet – maybe soon!

I am sure you can see from the above that we do love this company, and none of the items we have tried and continue to use have been given to us to try, we really do love buying their stuff.  However, there are few companies who are perfect, and Tommee Tippee aren’t one of those – even they have a few products which in our experience just haven’t been any good!  But those are few and far between when compared to their awesome products.
